Maria is an artist and a scientist.
After completing a science degree in Microbiology & Genetics at the University of Sydney, Maria worked in the Microbiology Department of the University Sydney before moving over to the University of New South Wales to continue in the Department of Biotechnology. She has been part of various research teams working on projects where humans rely on the activity of bacterial communities. She progressed to science administration, working within the Cooperative Research Centre for Food Industry Innovation, including a role as Education Officer coordinating staff workshops, student scholarships and symposia for the Centre.
More senior administrative and management roles were the logical next step, and she worked as Production Manager for VRI Biomedical Ltd, and QA Manager when the firm became Probiomics Ltd, a pharmaceutical organisation that produced encapsulated live probiotic bacterial products for sufferers of intestinal disorders (e.g. Irritable Bowel Syndrome & Crohn's disease).
A change in life goals and direction saw Maria retrain in the arts, completing a Diploma in Fine Arts in 2011. Since then Maria has been producing art in various media, including steel, wood, oil paints, acrylic paints and photography. |
