The Manly Arts Festival is nearly here again and it is so exciting for me this year. I am privileged to call Midori Furze friend and colleague, because she has energy and creativity in spades, and has come up with yet a new way to share her enthusiasm for art making. Her genius plan was to become a pop-up resident of Westfield Warringah Mall, who are taking a very creative and community-minded approach to the vast number of spaces they manage in the Brookvale shopping centre.
So Midori’s proposal to demystify art and artists has taken off, with her and I sharing an open plan studio space at the shopping centre for the 9 days of the Manly Arts Festival. Not only are we going to be there, accessible to everyday people to come and chat and be a part of art-making, but Midori suggested we also host other local northern beaches artists who would like to hold demonstrations and discuss their own art making.
Within no time at all we have a great program of visitors who are happy for you to come and chat or watch their demonstrations. We are thrilled to bits to be able to share the studio with so many accomplished and creative artists.
